Scope of Power and Function

The scope of power and function of CVLB as according to the provisions under the CVLB Act 1987 (Act 334) are as follows:

  • Develope Bumiputera entrepreneurs in the commercial vehicle industry through entrepreneurship development training and programmes.

  • Consider and approve applications for new licences, renewals and change of conditions for all classes of commercial vehicles in Peninsular Malaysia.

  • Impose conditions for all classes of commercial vehicles licence including determining fare rate, fare level, journey schedule, number of passengers, operation areas, load weight, type of goods, handling matters and other special conditions.

  • Suspending, cancelling or deciding on a suitable penalty on any class of commercial vehicle licence which is convicted of violation of the licence conditions or not obeying any provision under the CVLB Act 1987 (Act 334) or any rules made under it as well as other enforced laws.

  • Determine the duration of licence enforcement for all classes of commercial vehicles.

  • Licensing commercial vehicles from Singapore, Thailand or other foreign countries that are allowed to operate in Peninsular Malaysia.

  • Conduct studies on new routes before giving consideration to applications for bus licences for the routes.

  • Collect records, financial statements, statistics or other documents related to the businesses of commercial vehicles licence holders.

  • Determine the application procedure, processing and considering licence applications, charge fees, decide on penalties and determining the sign of identification to commercial vehicles.

  • Executing tasks related to enforcement of the conditions set for commercial vehicles licences.
